MercyMe It's Christmas Cd Giveaway

"Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.
Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway. If you have won a prize from our sponsor Propeller / FlyBy Promotions in the last 30 days, you are not eligible to win. If you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again. Winner is subject to eligibility verification.”

By this time every year, I'm usually just about done with my Christmas shopping and am listening to Christmas music every time Hubby leaves the house (he's a no-Christmas-anything-before-Thanksgiving type of guy).  This year though, I just can't get into the Christmas spirit or bring myself to do anything Christmassy.  It's not because I'm a scrooge though.  To show you why I'm just not there yet, let's play a spot-the-difference-in-the-pictures game.

Here's a picture I took at this time last year:

Aaaaand, here's a picture I just took about a week ago:

I just can't get into Christmas when it's still fall outside!  We live in Minnesota and I am absolutely LOVING the warm temps and uncharacteristically beautiful weather we're having in November, but it is killing my Christmas spirit.

When Flyby Promotions sent me a MercyMe Christmas CD to review on my blog, I set it by the stereo and forgot about it since, well, you know.  (See above pictures if you still don't know)  Until I got a reminder email yesterday..."Your review is due today!"

Whoops.

So I got up this morning, got the big kids off to school, pleaded with the little kids to play nicely with each other (and please, for the love of chai lattes, no pooping until I'm done writing!), and turned on the cd.

I love it.  It's Christmassy without being in your face jingle bells and Bethlehem stars.  Beautiful music with beautiful lyrics...it's just perfect.  Have I mentioned that I love it?  I'm totally leaving it in the cd player until January.  I think I've found the cd to ease me into the Christmas spirit.  I kind of figured it would be a winner since I love MercyMe's other albums, and I wasn't disappointed.

Mercy Me It’s Christmas CD will be available in Pizza Ranch locations beginning November 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015.  It has 4 exclusive songs that can only be found on the CD version being sold by Pizza Ranch.  Each CD will be sold for $5 plus tax.  Pizza Ranch will give away the CD with a $25 gift card purchase as well as sell the full album at each of its 200 locations throughout the Midwest and Great Plains states.  "We are so excited to debut our new Christmas album, MercyMe, It’s Christmas, with Pizza Ranch” said Bart Millard with MercyMe. “Pizza Ranch is a fantastic restaurant with a great mission to glorify God. It's the perfect gift to give this Christmas season and the perfect CD to get you in the Christmas spirit.”

See?!?!  Even Bart said it's the perfect CD to get me in the Christmas spirit.  The guy knows what he's talking about.  And just go ahead and give me another reason to go to Pizza Ranch, why don't you?  #pizzaloversunite

Soooooo, want to win your own copy?  It's easy and your info will never be used except to contact you in case you win, I promise!  You can enter as many or as few of the options in the Rafflecopter wideget as you'd like.  All entries will be verified so play fair :)

"Grace of God" Dvd Review and Giveaway

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising"): Many thanks to the Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway.  Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation.  I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.  Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway.  If you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again.  Winner is subject to eligibility verification.

About the movie:
Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church's collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly's views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.
99 Minutes // Genre: Family, Inspirational // Rating:  NR

Right from the start of the movie, I had a character pegged as the suspect.  The movie's description said that the thief was an "unexpected church-goer" so I had a few people I thought it also might be, but when the thief finally came clean, I was surprised.  The movie kept me guessing the whole time and had a storyline that was easy to follow, yet interesting with lots of twists and turns.  I enjoyed this movie and can't wait to watch it again with Hubby.

I wasn't really sure how the tagline "a story of Easter redemption" fit the movie, but the message was still really good.  The perception of Christianity in the movie was spot on.  I also enjoyed the humor in the story line.

If you're not the winner of the giveaway, you can still buy your own copy of the dvd at Walmart.

"The Adventures of Pajama Girl" Review and Giveaway

About the book:
A cute, illustrated story about a girl's imagination and her magical pajamas. In this adventure, Ellie's cupcake pajamas pave the way for she and her Sis to take a journey to a land filled with all kinds of sweet treats. Their journey quickly turns into an adventure to help the Cupcake Queen find the missing sprinkles needed for her coronation ceremony. In searching for the missing sprinkles, Ellie and Sis uncover a life lesson that is important for every child to learn.

My girls were super excited when we received The Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake Queen in the mail...anything that involves princesses is pretty high on their list.  :)

The book teaches that stealing is wrong and also about forgiveness.  The lessons were taught in a way that was fun and entertaining.  I also love that the lead character, Elli, prayed for a sweet dream before she went to bed and ended up having such a fun one.  Princess is sometimes upset about having bad dreams and this gave her the idea to pray about it every night.  My girls loved the artwork in the book, and Princess enjoyed reading it to her little sister.

I do wish the book was written in prose instead of in poem form since it doesn't flow very well sometimes, but other than that, the book was perfect.

About the author:
Sandra Hagee Parker lives in San Antonio with her husband, Ryan, and their daughters, Olivia and Elliana - the original pajama girls. A practicing attorney, Sandy is also a part of the music ministry at Cornerstone Church where she and her husband are leaders. When not working or writing, Sandy enjoys traveling with her family and mastering the art of making Pancakes a la Pajama Girl with her two girls.

"Whatever Wanda" Review and Giveaway

About the book:
Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment!  She doesn't want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won't participate in any of the events or join in with her friends.  Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that "sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is.  Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!"

Sometimes, my kids have attitude problems.  And, as dear Hubby pointed out one day, there's a pretty good chance they inherited them from me.

Ouch.

When I sat down to read Whatever Wanda with the kids, I really appreciated the message.  It was easy for my kids to understand what the book was saying about bad attitudes and how to fix them plus, I got a good reminder of how to work on my own attitude problem.

Whatever Wanda has a great story line and adorable artwork.  It's definitely a must have for our bookshelf!  I also plan to look for the other books in the Shine Bright series (Can't Wait Willow and Must-Have Marvin) and will be utilizing the many resources available for kids and adults on the Shine Bright Kids website such as posters, coloring sheets, reward charts, and more!

About the author:
Christy Ziglar, financial planner, mother of twins, and niece of legendary motivator and the world's original optimist, Zig Ziglar, is bringing the same timeless wisdom and ageless advice to an entirely new, younger audience through her Shine Bright Kids picture book series.

"Their Name is Today" Book Review and Giveaway

About the book:
Despite a perfect storm of hostile forces that threaten to deny children a happy, healthy childhood, courageous parents and teachers can turn the tide.  Yes, we can reclaim childhood, says Johann Christoph Arnold, whose books have helped more than a million readers throughout the challenges of education and family life.  In Their Name is Today, he highlights drastic changes in the way our society treats children.  But he also brings together the voices of dedicated parents and educators who are finding creative ways to give children the time and space they need to grow.  Cutting through the noise of conflicting opinions, Arnold takes us to the heart of education and parenting by defending every child's right to the joy and wonder of childhood.

When I started reading Their Name is Today, I sat down with a highlighter so I could highlight the points I liked or wanted to remember.  Before I was halfway done with the first chapter, I'd abandoned the highlighter in lieu of turning down the top corner of the pages I thought contained valuable information because I was highlighting so much.  By the beginning of the second chapter, I'd given that up as well because just about every page had a corner folded down.

The thought that kept going through my head was, "Every person who comes in contact with children NEEDS to read this book."  That includes parents, grandparents, teachers, daycare providers, Sunday School teachers, etc.  The US Department of Education especially needs to read this because the public school system could use a pretty big overhaul as the current system is damaging to so many children.  Believe me when I say that I will definitely be passing this book around to my friends and family and encouraging them to buy their own copies to keep.

Arnold emphasizes the blessings that children are and how much responsibility we, as adults, have towards them.  Our society sees children as a burden that is to be pushed off on someone else to deal with.  We've forgotten that children are actually adults-in-training and without the care and love they desperately need, they will not grow up to be the kind of adults this world needs to keep going.  Their Name is Today reminds the reader of the importance of children and pinpoints many of the issues facing children and the adults raising them today.  But it doesn't stop there like so many articles I've read.  It continues with solutions and ideas that each parent, each teacher, each caregiver can utilize to help one more child have the childhood they deserve.

Do you have children?  Babysit?  Teach?  Come in contact with children at all?  Then you are going to want to read this book!  Win your own copy by entering on the Rafflecopter widget below.

Overrated by Eugene Cho: A Book Review

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC's 15 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising"): May thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway.

About the book:
We all want to change the world, but as pastor Eugene Cho found out, it takes more than just desire. It takes action. In this personal confession he encourages readers to discover a practical discipleship that begins with the recognition that changing the world starts with changing ourselves.
Many people today talk about justice, but are they living justly? They want to change the world, but are they being changed themselves? Eugene Cho shares his story, a messy, painful story of being more in love with the ideas behind the actions than counting the cost and being a world-changer in action. Because everyone loves justice and compassion, but few have taken it upon themselves to truly live it out in their own lives. Cho is still on that journey to discover what it means, and invites readers to join him.

About the author:
Eugene is the founder and visionary of One Day’s Wages, a grassroots movement of people, stories, and actions to alleviate extreme global poverty. He is the founder and senior pastor of Quest Church, an urban, multicultural, and multigenerational church in Seattle, Washington. Eugene and his wife, Minhee, have three children.  You can also find Eugene on his blog and website, eugenecho.com

From the author:
This book is my confession. It’s painful and honest, but it’s mine. And it’s this: I am more in love with the idea of changing the world than actually changing the world. This isn’t a message of guilt or shame. But it is a call, to both you and me, to be less infatuated with telling a good story and instead live the good story—a story of faith, hope, courage, and justice. -Eugene Cho

“Are we more in love with the idea of changing the world than actually changing the world?”  - Eugene Cho

After reading the overview of this book, I was intrigued.  So many Christians today are comfortable sitting in their cozy houses, sharing links on Facebook or tweeting about the injustices of the world, but not actually doing something about them.  Eugene Cho challenges us to get up and do something to right those injustices and to get out of our comfort zones.  He reminds us that instead of just getting upset about things, we need to ask ourselves, "what can I do about it?"  I'll be honest...it wasn't a "comfortable" book to read, but I felt that it was a necessary one and one that all Christians should read.

Cho started the book by sharing how his family publicly pledged a years' wages to the cause of justice.  After three years of scrimping, saving, and living without, they were still $10,000 short.  So, on a whim, he decided to put an ad on Craiglist to sublet his family's home to earn that last $10,000.  It worked, but it meant that his family had to leave their home for 10 weeks.  I was taken aback by the faith and sacrifice they showed.  Right then, I knew that I was in for a wild ride with the book.

Cho's use of humor throughout the book was perfect and he was able to use his own stories and anecdotes to make very clear points.

Adelaide's Attic Review and Giveaway

One of my favorite things about having little girls is the hair accessories.  We have tons of hairbows, headbands, barrettes, etc, but there's always room for more.  So when Julie from one of my favorite blogs, Director Jewels, started her own Etsy shop, I was pretty excited to see all the beautiful headbands she creates.  She also makes stuffed owls, pillows, party supplies, and more!  She was sweet enough to send me two headbands, one for each of my girls.

Of course, Star is in the fun toddler stage where she refuses to be photographed as anything other than a blur, but I managed to get one quick picture of the two girls together.

Princess was kind enough to model both of the headbands for a few more pictures.

The headbands are really well made and even when I caught Star chewing on hers, it stayed together perfectly (although I am not advocating using them as chew toys, obviously.)

The headbands themselves are made with soft FOE that is so stretchy and comfortable that the girls don't mind wearing their headbands all day.

Julie was kind enough to let me interview her.

Q: When did you start your business?
A: I've been crafting since I was a little girl, so owning a shop has kind of always been a dream.  I opened Adelaide's Attic at the beginning of 2014.

Q: How did you get started?
A: After creating gifts for my own kids, friends, and family members wiht positive reviews and encouragement, I decided to take the leap and offer my products to others!

Q: Describe some of your products:
A: I dabble in many crafting mediums, so you never know what may pop up in my shop!  So far, my product list includes children's clothing (dresses and tie onesies), plush personalized pillows, and lovey blankets, and a large assortment of hair accessories.

Q: What inspires you?
A: There is inspiration in just about everything in the world, but I draw the most from my beautiful children and their laughter, bright sunshine after a week of rainy days, and breathtakingly beautiful music.

How would you like a hair accessory for your little one from Adelaide's Attic?  Julie was sweet enough to offer my readers a hair accessory of choice, up to a $15 value.  Enter in the rafflecopter widget below.  You can also use the coupon code BLOG2014SUPERMOMMY for 10% off any purchase through August 31st at Adelaide's Attic.

"The Marriage You've Always Wanted" Review and Giveaway

When I was given the chance to review Gary Chapman's new book, "The Marriage You've Always Wanted," I jumped at the chance.  I've read several of his other books including "The Five Love Languages" and have always found his writing to be supported by the Bible and very helpful.

Visit the official website
Like on Facebook
Follow on Twitter
Small group curriculum also available here

About the book:
You can picture the perfect marriage in your mind, but re-creating it in reality doesn't come easy.  Trusted counselor and relationship expert Dr. Gary Chapman reasons the the most sought-after ingredient in any marriage is true oneness.  In "The Marriage You've Always Wanted," he presents expert wisdom and common sense methods to establishing that true unity on emotional and practical levels.  Discover the wit and insight that makes his worldwide presentations and marriage conferences so popular.  Are you trying to change your spouse?  Do you know what it means to really love someone?  Do you feel ignored or even alone in your effort to improve your marriage?  Dr. Chapman has answers and action steps on topics from expressing your emotions to managing your money, all in a format that will have you and your spouse talking and learning with every page.

Hubby and I have been married for over seven years.  During that seven years, we've experienced four surprise pregnancies and added three-soon-to-be-four children to our family, we've moved twice and are currently house hunting, we've each had job changes that were life-changing (not always in a good way), and we've experienced loss of income from those job changes.  That's a lot of stress and changes in seven years time!  Even though our relationship is good, there's always room for improvement, right?  Of course, like any couple, we have our idiosyncracies and habits that bother the other one ("Why can't he pick up his dirty socks?!?"  "Why does she always run the van so low on gas before filling up?!?!")

One of the things I liked the most about this book was that it shows you how to have the marriage you want, not by changing your spouse, but by changing yourself.  It's unrealistic to expect to be able to change someone else, and you can only start with yourself.  Gary Chapman lays everything out on the table and doesn't sugar coat things.  The book can be pretty convicting, but it's definitely a good thing!

This isn't a very long book, but it can take a while to get through.  I'm still working through it as I want to be sure to give each chapter the attention it deserves before moving on to the next one.  At the end of each chapter is a section with questions and challenges to help you apply what you've learned.  The way the book is written means that it can be done by one spouse alone or by both together.

Even if you're not currently having struggles in your marriage, this book can help strengthen your relationship and that's always a good thing.  I definitely recommend it to every married couple.

The First Christmas Night Giveaway

One of my Christmas traditions is to get a new Christmas book for each of the kids.  This year, Christmas came early as I let the kids have this book already :)  They loved listening to the story and because it's written in rhyming prose, it's easy to read.  The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful and I was able to enjoy the book as much as the kids were.  The book is hardcover with a beautiful dust jacket to protect the book.

"The Sparkle Box" Review and Giveaway

Growing up, we always hung a stocking for Jesus at Christmas time.  One year, I tried to get my siblings to write their good deeds on a slip of paper and put them in the stocking as a gift for Jesus, but you know how siblings can be...  After about a week or so, I gave up because I was the only one doing it, but it's time to start a similar tradition with my own family (because my kids listen to me better than my siblings did).  I've been waiting until my kids were a little bit older and now that Princess is 5 and Little Man is 3, they're able to understand things a little better so it's time.

Which is why, when I received the book "The Sparkle Box" to review, I was thrilled.  Here's a synopsis of the book from the website:

Sam is so excited about Christmas! He's thinking about what to put on his Christmas list, anticipating holiday parties and puzzling over one very mysterious gift – a sparkly box sitting on the mantel above the fireplace. Written by Jill Hardie and brought to life by the rich illustrations of Christine Kornacki, The Sparkle Box is a heartfelt Christmas story that celebrates the beauty and excitement of the Christmas season, while gently bringing the true meaning of Christmas into focus through a story that features a powerful Christmas tradition. Children and adults of all ages will be captivated by The Sparkle Box and forever changed when they discover the Sparkle Box is a gift that honors Jesus on his birthday. Readers moved to adopt this faith-centered Christmas tradition in their homes can put a Sparkle Box, included with the book, under their own Christmas tree.

This book explains the whole concept really well for young kids and Princess is already excited to get started on our own Sparkle Box.  I loved that the book came with a sparkle box in the back to put together and use.  We haven't started filling it up yet, but I think December 1st would be a good time to start to kick off the Christmas season :)  I've been putting together a list of Random Acts of Kindness I can do with the kids

The Sparkle Box assembled.

It really sparkles!

Audrey Bunny Review and Giveaway

About the book:
From best-selling women's author Angie Smith (I Will Carry You, Mended) comes this sweet children's book about a stuffed animal named Audrey Bunny who fears her imperfections make her unworthy of a little girl's love.  She'll learn the truth soon enough, and young readers will learn that everyone is special and wonderfully made by God.

About the author:
Angie Smith is the wife of Todd Smith (lead singer of Dove Award winning group Selah), best-selling author of MendedI Will Carry You, and What Women Fear, and one of the most popular speakers and blog writers in the country. She holds a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Vanderbilt University and lives with her husband and daughters in Nashville, TN.

As soon as I received the book Audrey Bunny by Angie Smith in the mail, I opened the package and read it right there in the car.  I wasn't disappointed and, I don't know if it's just the pregnancy hormones or what, but it brought tears to my eyes.   I'd read Angie's story on her blog a few years ago about losing her baby girl Audrey just a few hours after giving birth and the stuffed bunny that came to mean so much to her family.

I loved the parent connection in the back of the book as it allowed me to discuss the book with my kids.  They're a little too young to grasp the concept of the letter project, but it's something that would be good to do with them when they get a little older.

"Rufus and Ryan Go To Church" Review and Giveaway

I was excited to receive the book Rufus and Ryan Go to Church to review.  The little boy in the story, Ryan, reminds me so much of 3 year old Little Man.  I read the book to Little Man, who was very excited that Ryan gets to do the same things at church that he does.

Rufus and Ryan Go to Church is very well-written to appeal to young children.  I love that the book is a sturdy board book that even Star can look at on her own.  This is a book that will be coming with us to church on Sunday in our "quiet bag."  The author, Kathleen Long Bostrom, also has another book in the series titled Rufus and Ryan Say Their Prayers

You can find out more at www.idealsbooks.com and facebook.com/idealsbooks

About Ring the Bell:
"Ring the Bell" shares the story of a slick, big city sports agent Rob Decker who seems to have it all.  But on his latest mission to sign a high school baseball superstar, Rob becomes stranded in a small town where the simplicity of life--and the faith of the people--stand in stark contrast to his own fast-paced, win-at-all-costs mindset.  Torn between these two worlds, will Rob have the courage to let faith transform his life?  This heartwarming story of redemption is sure to entertain and inspire the whole family.

DVD Special Features:

A Very Special Movie

Ringing the Bell

The Artists and Music of "Ring The Bell"

I was pretty excited about receiving this dvd to review as it looked like a really good movie.  The storyline was inspiring and sweet and I liked that Steven Curtis Chapman and Casting Crowns were in the movie as well.  Being from a very small town, I wasn't keen on some of the stereotypes I saw, but overall, it was a good movie and one I plan to watch again.  Because of his crazy work schedule, I haven't had time to watch "Ring the Bell" with Hubby yet, but I know he'll enjoy the movie too, especially because of the sports aspect.

Want to win your own copy of "Ring the Bell"?  Enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for a chance to win!

*The giveaway is open to US residents only.  All entries will be verified.  The dvd will be mailed to the address provided by the winner.  The winner will be announced on the Rafflecopter widget below and emailed.

Don't forget to enter the giveaway for a cute children's book about Jonah and the whale!  You can enter to win here.

Did you see my new monthly feature?  Every month, I'm hosting a link-up for giveaways so if you have a giveaway you'd like to promote, you can link it up here.

When we went to visit my sister and her new baby in the hospital last week, Princess got the chance to peek in the nursery and see the babies all lined up in their little plastic bassinets.  Her eyes widened as she asked, "Are these babies all for sale?"

I made a list of all the projects and orders I need to finish this week.  It's really long.  I have a sewing challenge for the Boutique Challenge Auctions page to finish by Wednesday, 3 outfits to make for my son, niece, and nephew who are having a joint 3rd birthday party soon, I have to design a graphic for some shirts for a customer, I have 5 dresses, 2 vests, and 1 tutu to make for customers, and I have to make my son's birthday present (overachiever, perhaps?)  Of course, that list doesn't include silly things such as housework, taking care of the kids, running Princess to and from preschool, and the other usual stuff on my list.  You know what?  I should probably actually get started on some of that stuff instead of writing this post :)  Sorry this one is so short!
