How To Make Your Blog Post "Pinnable"

Pinterest, blogging, business, tutorial

If you're like me, you have a "pin it" button installed on your toolbar and you aren't afraid to use it...liberally (at last check, I had over 4000 pins on my 48 Pinterest boards).  However, not everyone has that button installed or maybe they just need a little nudge to pin something from your blog.

Here's how to make your blog post "pinnable."

First write your blog post, complete with pictures (you can't pin words!), and publish it.  Now before you start promoting it on your Facebook page or Twitter (you do have those, right? Because they're awesome and free ways to promote your blog!) open your blog post like you're going to read it, and then open the Button and Widget Builder page on Pinterest in another tab.  Select the "Pin It Button."  Under Button Type, select "One Image."
Copy and paste the URL of your blog post into the first space.
Click on the picture in your post that you want readers to pin so it opens up in the window by itself.  Copy and paste the URL of the image into the second space where it says "image."  Finally, add a description of your pin (Examples: Awesome giveaway at Awesome Giveaways Blog, How to host an awesome giveaway on your blog,)  Click on the red button that says "Build It!" and scroll down to copy your html code.

Next, open your blog post back up to edit it.  You do not need to be in HTML format to add the code.  Paste the html code right below the image you just built a pin for or wherever you want the button to go in your post.  Publish your post and you're done!

I decided to put the html code right below my picture so the Pin It Button shows up directly below it.

Now, if you want to create a hover button (for an example, hover over any of the pictures in this post!) on the images themselves, go back to the Buttons and Widgets Builder page on Pinterest.  Select the "Pin It Button" and then select the option that says "Image Hover" for the button type and click "Build It."  Copy and paste the html code onto the very bottom of your blog post.  Once again, you do not need to be in HTML format to add the code.  You probably want the description on the pins to be filled in for people which is helpful because sometimes people just hit the period and call it good enough which makes it harder for your pin to be repinned and found on Pinterest.  Click on the image in your post while you're editing and click on "Properties."

Under "Title Text," fill in the description just like you would for a pin.  Hit publish and admire your work!

Pin It To Win It!

There are two things I love.  Okay, actually I love a lot more things than that, but for the purpose of this post, we'll focus on these two things.

I love free stuff/great discounts and Pinterest.  (Does that count as three things?)  So just for fun, I'm going to combine those two (three?) into a contest for you!

Here's how it works: First, follow me on Pinterest.  If you're not on Pinterest yet, you can email me at annaliesbabyboutique@yahoo.com for an invite.  Next, pin something you like from my Etsy shop.  You can pin up to three things a day during the duration of the contest.  The Rafflecopter widget (below) makes it super easy to enter each day!  It will ask you to leave a link to your pin, if you're not sure how to do that, just click on your pin so it comes up like this, then copy and paste the url (which will look like this: http://pinterest.com/pin/110690103312167751/) in the box on the Rafflecopter widget.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

The contest will end on July 25th.  There will be three prizes:
1st prize (winner gets the product in the winning pin for free!) for the pin with the most repins.
2nd prize ($15 gift certificate) with the second highest number of repins.
3rd prize ($10 gift certificate) with the third highest number of repins.

Have fun!

How to Create a Pin on Pinterest

I might be slightly addicted to Pinterest.  Maybe.  It's a great way to get inspiration for just about anything, but it also can be a great business tool.  I get a lot of traffic from Pinterest on my blog and my website.  But, Pinterest doesn't pin things from Facebook.  Which is a good thing for privacy reasons, but it means that I can't pin anything from my Facebook blog or boutique pages.

From "Art Made with Heart"

There is a way to put your own photos on Pinterest though!  Start by clicking on the "Add" button at the top of your Pinterest screen.

This (see below) will pop up on your screen and give you three options.  Select "Upload a Pin"

Upload a picture from your computer and pick what board you'd like it to go on.  Then fill in your description.

Your new pin will come up and show that it was "uploaded by user".  That would be you!  The problem is that there's no link to the pin for people to click on.  Click on "Edit" to fix this!

Under the description, you'll see a blank space for the link.  Copy and paste the website you want the pin to be linked to into that space and select "Save Pin".

When your pin opens back up, check out the spot for the link.  It should tell the user what website the pin will take them to if they choose to follow the link.  Go ahead and test it so you can see how smart you are.

Done!  Give yourself a pat on the back!

Or, if you to pin something from Facebook instead of having to save the picture to your computer, right click on the picture on Facebook and select "open link in new tab."  Pin the picture from the new tab and then edit the link as shown above to direct people to the original picture on Facebook.  So easy!

Pinterest Deliciousness! Edition 2

Here are three new recipes from my Pinterest Food board that I tried this week!

Lemon Lush Bars from Smashed Peas and Carrots
I made these super easy Lemon Lush Bars for my women's Bible Study group at church and they were a hit!  There were enough left over that I may or may not have had one for breakfast the next morning.  The recipe can be found at the Smashed Peas and Carrots blog.

Polish Cabbage Noodles
I made this dish for supper the other night and Alison is right.  It's even better the next day.  Which is good, because leftovers are a big deal in our house.  I prefer to eat leftovers for lunch rather than making a whole new meal and Hubby takes leftovers with him for meals at work.  I made mine with kielbasa (I always stock my freezer with kielbasa when it's on sale!) and minced garlic.  So good!  Next time, I will cut down on the butter as this recipe uses a whole stick, but I don't think it'll change the overall flavor too much if I do that.  The recipe can be found at the Under the Big Oak Tree blog.

Kool Aid Rice Krispie Treats
Because rice krispies are gluten free, they're a popular snack for Princess.  She calls them her candy bars :)  I thought it might be fun to try different flavors and was working on a recipe using jello, but then I found this recipe that mixes in 1 packet of kool-aid and figured, why fix it if it isn't broken?  Also, I have a tendency to be lazy and let others do the work for me.  I used strawberry kool-aid for my bars and skipped the frosting drizzle as I thought it would make them messier for the kids to eat (lazy... or smart?)  They were the perfect combination of sweet and sour and both my kids loved them.  I sent these to the church picnic on Sunday and didn't get very many back.  The recipe can be found at the A Turtle's Life For Me blog.

Pinterest Deliciousness!

As of this minute, I have 164 pins on my Pinterest Food board.  I've been slowly trying the recipes out, and the ones I've tried so far have definitely been keepers.  I made these two for supper tonight.  In retrospect, the two together may have been a bit of a flavor overload.

Crack Potatoes
This easy (my #1 requirement for recipes!) cheesy hash brown dish came together quickly and is SO tasty.  There's a possibility that I went back for thirds on it.  Maybe.  The recipe can be found here at the Plain Chicken blog.

Honey Sauced Chicken
The Honey Sauced Chicken was delicious and the chicken came out super tender.  Next time, I might use a little less soy sauce, but that's just a personal preference.  I doubled the recipe so I could freeze half for another meal.  The recipe can be found here at the Mmm...Cafe blog.
